Crocodile Photo

A Crocodile photo can be taken in many parts of the world. The aquatic and terrestrial range of crocodiles includes seacoasts, rivers, lakes, and swamps of Africa, Asia, North Australia, and South America. Large reptiles of the order Crocodila appeared in the late Cretaceous period around 80-90 million years ago. Together with birds, they are the only living contemporaries of dinosaurs.

In a Crocodile photo, you can see reptiles that differ greatly in size, body structure, and habits. Actually, the term “crocodile” is often used incorrectly to refer to caimans and alligators, the close relatives of “true crocodiles.” All representatives of the Order Crocodilia have a very successful body plan. Modern species have not changed much compared to their ancestors living 80 million years ago. Crocodiles are well adapted to both aquatic and terrestrial lifestyle. Though they prefer hunting in water, they are also able to walk when searching for food. Some crocodile species are able to gallop at a speed of about 16 km/h.

In Crocodile photo galleries, most reptiles are featured with large teeth. Crocodiles are able to replace their teeth throughout life and have about 3,000 teeth in their lifetime. Their teeth are hollow, new teeth grow inside the old ones and are ready when they are lost. Young crocodiles replace their teeth every month, and in adult species, tooth replacement can take up to 2 years. Senior crocodiles cannot replace broken teeth and die of hunger.

Crocodiles have a relatively small brain, but compared to other reptiles it’s very advanced. Crocodiles are very intelligent and cunning. Though large crocodiles are fierce carnivores and man-eaters, some smaller species are available through pet trade. For instance, spectacled caimans are popular as pets because of their large, clever, appealing eyes and gentle smile. These animals are not the easiest ones in terms of keeping in captivity. It’s difficult to find a good breeder and a vet who specializes in these reptiles. There is little information available on the husbandry of captive crocodiles. Unfortunately, many pet caimans are mistreated or surrendered by their owners, who were attracted by a funny pet Crocodile photo and bought a caiman on impulse.
